Some recent successes

A print of this image was a feature in the “HONG KONG – at the water’s edge” photography exhibition that was held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in 2018.

The client first saw this picture at the exhibition and contacted me later to ask if he could by a print.

The picture was taken in the vicinity of the Kowloon Public Pier near the Star Ferry Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui. I was kind of “loitering” around the area and doing some photography for a documentary project I was working on at the time.

Initially I found it quite awkward photographing this man at work. In Hong Kong, it’s not site you see everyday. I mean, I’ve seen local artists at work but, in groups or gathering of a kind.

But, this picture worked – this in the sense of what I was looking for. A sort of juxtaposition of location and people.

I eventually got talking to the artist. He let it be known that he was sort of “wrapping up”. He was scheduled to leave Hong Kong soon. He was planning on join his children who where living in Canada and, while waiting for whatever one has to wait for in these situations he was making sketches and drawings of some of his favorite scenes around Hong Kong.

I said to him that I admired his tenacity and enthusiasm as it was not everyday that one encountered such scenes around the city.

In keeping with the theme of “HONG KONG – at the water’s edge”, this particular picture really helped tell the story.

The client bought a 16 x 24 inch print of this image and paid in the region of HK$4,500 – around US$450.
